Specchio-Covid19

Specchio-Covid19

From spring 2020, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Unit of Population Epidemiology (UEP) has set up several seroprevalence studies in the canton of Geneva (SEROCoV-POP, SEROCoV-WORK, Specchio-COVID19) to determine the proportion of the Geneva population who have developed antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 (the virus responsible for COVID-19), following infection or vaccination.

What does the Specchio-COVID19 study involve?

  • An initial questionnaire to be completed at the time of inclusion
  • A serological test by blood sampling at the time of inclusion
  • Follow-up using online questionnaires
  • Follow-up with serological tests as required by the study

What are the aims of the Specchio-COVID19 study?

To determine the serological and immune status of the population

The Specchio-COVID19 study makes it possible to :

  • determine the proportion of the population living in Geneva who have developed antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, whether as a result of infection or vaccination
  • improve our knowledge of the level and duration of protection provided by antibodies against new infections with SARS-CoV-2 and its various variants

To study the health, social and economic implications of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The data collected will also be used to

  • gain a better understanding of the short- and long-term impact of the pandemic on the physical and mental health, working life, social life and family life of the population of the canton of Geneva
  • assess how the population is adapting its behavior and lifestyles (diet, physical exercise, alcohol and tobacco consumption, etc.) to the health situation
  • highlight the persistence of COVID-19 symptoms several weeks or even months after infection (post-COVID).

Guiding public action to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic

In addition to producing precise scientific data, the results obtained in the Specchio-COVID19 study are regularly brought to the attention of public health players and decision-makers, in order to guide public action in managing the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences.

What are the benefits of the study for the participants?

The participants form a community of volunteers who:

  • actively contributes to advancing research on COVID-19
  • receives regular, reliable information and study results via the "News" and "Research" pages and a quarterly newsletter
  • can interact with our research teams (emails, webinars, etc.)
  • take part in a collective effort for the benefit of the whole population

Orienting public action to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic

The Specchio-COVID19 study is part of the Swiss national research program Corona Immunitas, coordinated by the Swiss School of Public Health (SSPH+), which aims to collect reliable and comparable epidemiological data on a national scale.
