SEROCoV-KIDS

The studySEROCoV-KIDSaims to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the health and development of children and adolescents in the canton of Geneva.

The study will involve 2,500 young people aged between 6 months and 17 years, for an epidemiological follow-up of around three years.

The pandemic may have affected the daily lives and development of children and adolescents, whether or not they had been in contact with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, either directly as a result of infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus, with persistent symptoms (post-COVID), or indirectly as a result of the pandemic's impact on other aspects of their health (anxiety, sleep quality, withdrawal, changes in socialization, etc.).

SEROCoV-Kids studies the consequences of the pandemic on the physical and mental health of the youngest children.

What are the aims of the study?

  • to gain a better understanding of the impact of the pandemic on the physical and mental health, well-being, development, education, socio-economic and family environment, and lifestyles of children and adolescents
  • inform and guide public health institutions in implementing and adapting measures for the youngest members of the population
  • target priority groups in order to implement an effective health promotion and prevention policy.

What does participation involve?

  • For the young participant: a serological test (by taking a blood sample) for anti-SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, at the time of inclusion in the study and every 18 months thereafter. This serological test is not compulsory
  • for parents (or referring adults): regularly fill in online questionnaires about their child's health
  • for adolescents aged 14 and over: to fill in the questionnaires specifically sent to them by email on their own.
