What impact do our modes of transport have on our health?

Population epidemiology studies examine various factors linked to the population's environment and lifestyles. They show, for example, that the way we travel or our exposure to noise pollution from motor traffic can have immediate and longer-term effects on our health.
Find out more in video by Prof. Idris Guessous, Head of the Department of Primary Care Medicine (SMPR) at Geneva University Hospitals, during a presentation to the Department of Health and Mobility (DSM) of the State of Geneva.
What is the situation in the canton of Geneva?
The Population Epidemiology Unit at the HUG, at the crossroads of health and mobility, is working to gather accurate data on all these issues and the many factors that can influence the health of the population over time. The aim is to help optimise approaches to promoting or raising awareness of the public health issues of our time, which affect us all, at every age.
A public event to explore these issues further:
These links between the environment, habits and the health of a population define the Geomedicine approach to public health. By combining medicine and spatial analysis, scientists are able to draw up maps showing the geographical distribution of a given disease in a given area. Prof. Idris Guessous is taking part in a free public seminar on recent discoveries and applications of this discipline, organised by the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Geneva, with the exceptional participation of Professor Lance A. Waller from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University in Atlanta, USA.
