The UEP well represented at the 17th World Congress on Public Health in Rome

More than 3,000 international scientists gathered in Rome from 2 to 6 May for the 17th World Congress of Public Health. Among them, five researchers from the Population Epidemiology Unit presented their recent work on COVID-19, the fruit of ongoing work between the PEU and thousands of participants in several epidemiological studies. The large number of participants underlines the international interest in the research being carried out on COVID-19 in Geneva. The aim was for the research teams to report on some of the results of their recent work, and also on the scientific lessons learned with a view to possible future pandemics.

Entitled A world in turmoil, Opportunities to Focus on the Public's Health, the 17th edition of this major congress was held under the banner of a world in turmoil, marked by changes and crises that are all reasons to focus on the health of populations. Health equity, the consequences of climate change and socio-economic inequalities, nutrition, health in migratory situations, digital health and artificial intelligence were among the main themes running through the many discussion sessions between scientists and public health decision-makers.

The issues surrounding vaccination, such as vaccine effectiveness and fake news about vaccination, were also the focus of numerous discussions linked to the context of COVID-19 and, more generally, the management of other epidemic crises.
The speeches given by the scientific teams from the Specchio-COVID19, SEROCoV-KIDS and SEROCoV-Schools studies covered a range of topics, including mental health, the transmission of SARS-CoV2 in schools, and the impact of the pandemic on children and adolescents.
These scientific avenues and conclusions drawn by the Population Epidemiology Unit have never been explored before. They were presented to the international scientific community for the first time at this congress in Rome. As soon as they are published, these study results will be made available to you via the Research page of the Specchio-Hub platform.
