Prevention and health promotion adapted to the Geneva context
An article published in January 2025 in the Swiss Medical Journalpresents, among other things, the prevalence of physical activity, sedentary lifestyle, nutrition, obesity and smoking in Geneva.

The results show, among other things, that the people of Geneva spend an average of 6 hours a day in a seated position, and this rises to 8 hours or more a day for 24% of the population. In terms of physical activity, 59% of people are considered to be sufficiently active. In terms of diet, 22% of people eat less than one portion of fruit a day, and 10% less than one portion of vegetables. Finally, 80% of Genevans consider themselves to be in good or very good health, but there are still social and gender disparities.
These results were obtained using data from the Specchio longitudinal study, commissioned by the Office Cantonal de la Santé in Geneva and analysing the state of health of the Geneva population and its determinants. These data are used to guide health promotion and prevention initiatives, and to prioritise the most appropriate recommendations for the local context.
