Specchio-COVID19 is being conducted by the Population Epidemiology Unit of the Department of Primary Care Medicine (SMPR) at the HUG. This team of around thirty people is headed by Professor Silvia Stringhini.
Professor Stringhini and her team have played an important role in monitoring the pandemic in Geneva and Switzerland. Indeed, since the start of the COVID-19 crisis, she has carried out several studies on the immunity of the Geneva population to SARS-CoV-2, several of which are part of the national national Corona Immunitas programme. She is principal investigator of the Specchio-COVID19 study.
With a PhD in Epidemiology and Public Health (Université Paris-Sud, France and University College London, UK), a Masters in Global Health (Trinity College Dublin, Ireland) and a Masters in International Economics, this epidemiologist has a wide range of skills.
Between 2018 and 2019, she was a visiting professor at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto, Canada. She will be a full professor in the UNIGE Faculty of Medicine in 2019 and an assistant professor in the Department of Community Health and Medicine in 2020.
Professor Stringhini is also a member of the Scientific Task Force COVID-19 and the Cantonal Research Ethics Committee of the Canton of Geneva.
Her main areas of research, in particular social inequalities in health, are an asset for this national mission.
