Initial results of SEROCoV-KIDS study published

The SEROCoV-KIDS study conducted by the Population Epidemiology Unit of the University Hospitals of Geneva on 1,034 children and adolescents shows that at least 14% of adolescents infected with SARS-CoV-2 have at least one symptom characteristic of post-COVID syndrome lasting more than 12 weeks.

The study also reveals that the risk of developing post-COVID syndrome is higher in children and adolescents from a low socio-economic background or suffering from chronic illnesses, particularly asthma.

The results suggest that prevention and screening efforts need to be stepped up in the youngest age groups, particularly those aged 12 to 17. The aim is to put in place effective and rapid treatment to limit the impact of post-COVID syndrome on the lives of adolescents.

This study of the paediatric population of Geneva is one of the first to clearly identify the prevalence and risk factors of this syndrome in children. The importance of these findings for global public health has been recognised by publication in the prestigious journal Nature Communications.

These advances have been made possible thanks to you and your children's participation in SEROCoV-KIDS since the beginning of December 2021.
