Bus Santé is back on the road!

Since 1992, more than 20,000 people have taken part in the study Health Bus throughout the canton of Geneva. Conducted by the Population Epidemiology Unit (UEP) of the Department of Primary Care Medicine (SMPR), the study estimates the prevalence (i.e. the number of cases at a given time) of non-communicable diseases in the population, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and cancer. It also makes it possible to determine the prevalence of risk factors for these diseases, such as smoking, alcohol consumption, lack of physical activity, etc.
Every year, 1,000 new people are selected at random from the register held by the Cantonal Office of Population and Migration, to ensure that the sample represents the composition of Geneva's population.
Interrupted because of COVID-19, the Bus Santé study will resume in 2023, using the digital tool developed by the UEP to conduct its studies since the start of the pandemic. People joining Bus Santé can create an account on the secure Specchio-Hub platform to complete a number of health questionnaires online. The study also includes a free health check lasting around 45 minutes, comprising a number of measurements and examinations, including a blood test, at various locations in the canton, including the HUG, the Belle-Idée site, the Lignon district and the commune of Onex.
Anyone taking part in Bus Santé who wishes to continue this commitment to public health over the long term is invited to join Specchio. The aim of the study is to find out more about the state of health of Geneva's population and monitor it over time.
